Commissioned portrait of the dragon Kistaro Windrider.
It's the portrait that wouldn't quit! Just when I thought it was done, it decided that it wanted MORE COLOR to help the white parts stand out.
How I did this:
the first layer is a scan of a complex pencil drawing, done with just plain gray #2 and #1 pencils; that portion is pure Traditional Art, and all the stuff that follows is Digital Art. The second layer above that is set to Soft Light, and is used to tint the gray linework; by itself, this layer just looks like a completely abstract painting, like if a box of crayons exploded. The third layer is set to Multiply, and was used for the broad, soft, airbrushed colors that are independent of the linework... for example, the gold swooshy stuff on the sides... that's the MORE COLOR part.
Prior versions of this picture: [link] Upper half only, uncolored. [link] Full, uncolored. [link] Full, linework colored, using the second layer that I just explained to you.

It's totally awsome. I wish I could think up something to say but I just can't. The designs are great, the colors are great, the movement is great. I can't believe that's digital!
Thank you. ^_^ It's not really an "I can't believe it's not digital" painting, because it's more than halfway drawn with a good ol' #2 pencil. Photoshop was just for coloring it in! I'm going to add a "how I did it" explanation to the image's description.
I'm impressed by your style and I particularly love this picture. It has a lot of details in the shades of colors, but also in the effect of the creature's movement. It has a flavour of abstract that makes the whole picture so charming.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

And no one sings me lullabyes
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky....
